8:25 Reading - Reader: Jill Vaughan

Matthew 27:27-30 - Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. "Hail, king of the Jews!" they said. They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.

From Isaiah 52:14 - Just as there were many who were appalled at him - his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness--

Prayer: Father of the Son who anguished at the hands of evil men, whose Son was mutilated on our behalf, forgive us for our part in Jesus’ scourging. We may not have physically laid a hand on Him, Father, but our sins brought about His pain and suffering during this last day. And we have contributed by mocking and verbally abusing each other and the least of these, among other transgressions at one time or another. Father, we thank you for your grace, for your Son’s sacrifice, for His willingness to suffer on the Cross for our sins. In His name we pray. Amen.
