8:10 Reading - Reader: Gary Anderson

From Mark 14:55-61 - The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any. Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree. Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: "We heard him say, `I will destroy this man-made temple and in three days will build another, not made by man.'" Yet even then their testimony did not agree. Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.

From Isaish 53:7 - He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

Prayer: Father, agonizing witness to these events, who planned out all the activities of Holy Week long before David was a twinkle in Jesse’s eye, forgive us for our accusations of Christ. Although we don’t speak viciously as the Sanhedrin did, we, in our hearts, sometimes have doubt and throw excuses in the way of our belief in your Son as our Lord and Saviour. Forgive us for being impatient to understand your plan for our lives. May we be an example of Christ when those around us accuse us. May we remember to remain silent and not return evil for evil. We pray all this in your Son’s blessed name. Amen
